Free Game Friday: Streets of Rage Remake

So if you just happen to be a fan of oldschool games, not to mention games back on the Genesis, then boy do I definitely have a treat for you today.

This beat'em up has been created from the ground up by the fans for the fans featuring a lot of different playable characters from the Street of Rage universe including new ones! A lot of blood and sweat went into this which doesn't normally happens when it comes to fangames of this magnitude.

Streets of Rage Remake is a final product that allows for local multiplayer and includes their own story with endings. Unfortunately, within the week it was released, it was followed by a cease & desist from Sega stating that they were unable to officially host the game for download which is why we can't offer the link here...but lucky for you, I can offer this...

And yes, I know it's not Friday.

Free Game Friday: Black Mesa Source

At long last, the mother of all videogame modifications has arrived at our proverbial doorstep. Black Mesa Source is a full recreation of the original Half-Life story done with the new Source engine, and no I'm not talking about Half-Life: Source. Quite a bit of the game has been recreated, including brand new voice acting and music, to give it a more modern look (and to give people like me a real reason to finally beat it). One could say this mod is as infamous as Duke Nukem Forever. The best part of it all? It's completely free and completely sanctioned by Valve. You can grab it up right here, or torrent.

The game isn't entirely finished, but the team wanted to give us something to play as they add-on more of the story when they can. I know I can't complain about that! All you need to take part in the action is Steam along with the Source SDK installed.

So here's to you, reader. Enjoy your free game today!

Nintendo Wii U Will Cost $299 to $350 And Other Announcements

Today Nintendo held their press event in New York and finally let the cat out of the bag in regards to (99%) of the launch specifics for their upcoming system, the Wii U.

First with the news that people have been asking for -  the system will be launching in stores on November 18th, 2012 and will be available in two different bundles ranging from $299.99 for the "Basic" set up to $349.99 for the "Deluxe" model.

The "Basic" will come with the console and one Nintendo GamePad controller (both in white), an HDMI cable, a Wii Sensor Bar, GamePad Stylus, the Wii U AC adapter, the GamePad AC Adapter, and 8GB's of built in memory.

The "Deluxe" model comes with everything the "Basic" had, except the system and GamePad are all a sleek black finish instead of white, the memory is bumped up to 32GB from 8GB, both a charging stand for the Gamepad and a basic stand, the stand for the system if you want to display it on its side like the original Wii, and it includes Nintendo Land as a pack in game.

Steam's Big Picture Mode is Finally Here...

...but it's only in beta. With that said, it's free and open to anyone that wants to give it a shot. This very unique feature is Valve's way of putting you on the couch more so you can still enjoy those awesome PC games. Only having tried it out for a short time, I really enjoy what it has to offer. It reminds me of a very simplified Xbox Dashboard, and I kinda like that too. Video and more after the break.

Nintendo Announces a Wii U Specific Event for Sep 13th

Nintendo stated today that they will be holding a press event in New York City on September 13th that is focused on the Wii U and will be hosted by Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime.
According to their announcement, the event will be focused on "learning more about how the Wii U will change the future of gaming and entertainment" while hosting hands-on demos for the press after the main show.
This isn't the first time Nintendo has done something like this as they had a similar event a mere two months before the 3DS launch earlier this year as well as one for the Wii a few months before its release back in 2006.
Hopefully this will give us the final price, release date, and what will be included in the box for what I believe will be a November 2012 release.

Zenspath Podcast Episode 018 - Virtual Finger!

Welcome back since we have been late as heck!

We have a great cast this show with myself, N5omniac, Jeremiah, AJ, and Josh for one catch up show where we get back into the swing of things as we push to keep the show going for any and all that are listening.

We talk about Konami both dropping a needed update for a recent game while going back and updating a 4 year old title.  Polytron throwing a fit for making a broken game and having to pay for it.  Nintendo has launched the giant Nintendo 3DSXL alongside the coin based New Super Mario Bros 2. Nintendo is still being coy about Wii U news while Josh both hates and waits for it.  Listen to the show to find out what else we end up rambling about in the world of gaming!

Who Wants Some Panama City Street Pass Love! WE DO!

N5omniac and I have been talking lately about the lack of streetpass love we get from the people around here in Panama City.  We go to the comic book, videogame, book, toy, and other nerdy stores yet nothing.  We go to openings for movies like the Amazing Spider Man and the Dark Knight Rises...but still nothing.

We aim to change that.

We have plans and schemes that are always popping from our heads and I have decided to run with one of them to possibly solve this issue for those of us that love Nintendo's latest odd-ball handheld.  We want to get a streetpass group formed that can meet up from time to time and help us get these puzzles solved, hats discovered, friends found, and game challenges passed along.

I am working on setting up an event at a local comic shop here in Panama City called New Force Comics.  This would be my prefered venue for something like this because of the locations size, its pure nerdy flavor,...and it's just a few doors down from an awesome pizza place for food!

Finally, if we can pull this off, I will have some give aways going on as well to sweeten the deal.  I'm talking game and point card giveaways.  I will try and purchase some items from New Force as well so we can have comics and toys to give away.

Feel free to hit us up in the comment section below, email us at ZensPath.com@Gmail.com, find me on Xbox Live as "PsychoticZen", or on Playstation Network as "Zenspath".

Zenspath Podcast Episode 017 - Homesick Delirium

Welcome to another California episode of the show. Thankfully I am joined once again by N5omniac so we could cover some of the gaming and geek news that has been going on lately.

We talk about the upcoming Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, David Jaffe leaves "Eat Sleep Play", Xbox Live's Stephen "StepTo" Toulouse is leaving Microsoft, Sony skimps on Vita PSP UMD support for the US/Europe, Double-Fine pulls off another miracle, Ubisoft proves why DRM is bad, Resident Evil: Revelations was released, and much more.

We announced on the show our latest contest for the Podcast! Head over to Kickstarter to see where Double-Fine is right now on their amazing drive to raise money for a new adventure game that they are developing.  Once you check it out, post in the comments your closest guess as to what the final dollar value will be. The closest two people will each get a $20 card for their system of choice (Steam, Games for Windows, Xbox Live, Playstation Network, Wii Shop Channel, 3DS eShop, etc).  So let those guesses fly and see if you can win!

A Look into the Progressive State of Resident Evil

This is the series that has come to name and define the survival horror genre, but with Capcom's attempt at trying to garner more attention from the gamers abroad it has become something...different. Fans of the original titles are now complaining that the series seems to have abandoned the original genre that it had originally helped create in favor of one that included more action. Even with the fan's negative outlook from this transformation, it became the standard to quite a few popular 3rd person shooters that would come after.

Resident Evil Rises Like The Zombies They Left Behind

The Resident Evil series started off as a watermark for the Survival Horror series way back in 1996 on the Sony Playstation showing myself and many others that a videogame could scare you in a very real way.  The games continued on being ported to just about every system out there (I even played through RE2 on the N64 originally), finally getting the first true rebirth with Resident Evil 4 for the Nintendo Gamecube back in 2005 which followed up the hugely succesful Resident Evil 1 remake on the same system 3 years prior.

Read ahead for the new announcements that helped bring my hope back to this Zombie story!

Zenspath Podcast Ep 016 - Traveling Can Suck

Welcome to the first Episode of 2012 and the beginning of Season3 for the Zenspath Podcast!

This is a short epsiode that I pulled together on the road in California to get the ball rolling for the year and because I was getting WAY behind.

The music for this episode is the "Arkham City Main Theme" by Nick Arundel from 2011's Batman: Arkham City.

I talk a little about Zen Pinball 3D being released for the Nintendo 3DS eShop, Sony having some issues with the Vita, Modnation Racers for Vita lets us down, and why SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) has to be stopped along with my feelings and ranting on the matter.

So enjoy this short solo episode with a promise that there will be more to come!

Happy New Years from Zenspath.com!

Welcome to 2012!

2011 brought us some of the greatest games yet along with amazingly messed up stories for us all to enjoy, and 2012 is already looking to have some of its own. We can look forward to the release of the Nintendo Wii-U, the inevitable console announcements from Microsoft and Sony, the ongoing war for your pocket between Nintendo, Sony, Apple, and Android to get your mobile gaming cornered, as well as what new games or returning favorites will be announced.

2012 will also bring about Season 3 of the Zenspath Podcast with me returning as host along with Brent, Josh, AJ, and others as we go for more commenting and speculation mixed in with new contests and give aways.

So sit tight as we get ready for this new year and move on and grow the site. But remember to comment on any of our articles and shows, email us at Zenspath.com@gmail.com, find us on Twitter @Zenspath, or find any of us via our different online names to let us know what you think! Zenspath Podcast Ep 15 - The Mayans Called It

Welcome back to the Zenspath Pocast!

We took a break for a bit because just about everything you could think of happened to slow or outright stop us from recording...but we didn't give up!  Jeremy and Josh got together to talk about some Forza Motorsports 4, Skyrim, Sonic Generations (OMG it's actually GOOD), the death of the Lego Universe, and much more.  (Like Jeremy can't shoot a rabbit.)

We also talk about the decision to make the game giveaway for "Child of Eden" an ongoing event because while we GREATLY appreciate the 2 posts we got for the last show...we need to see some more!  Tell your friends, your family, your enemies, YOUR PETS! We need to get the word out to people about the show because we do this for YOU so we need to know what you want and like about the show.  So to sweeten the deal we are now including a copy of "Fruit Ninja Kinect" along with a sealed copy of "Child of Eden".  I know this contest is 360 focused, and I promise to change it up as time goes on, but you could win it for a friend, trade it in once you get it, use it as a coaster....it's up to you! (please be nicer than the coaster...)

So give the episode a quick download below or keep an eye out for it on iTunes and Zune Marketplace as we are working to get added to those locations for your ease of access.

Humble Indie Bundle #5

A brand new Humble Indie Bundle deal has arisen yet again this time dubbed "The Humble VOXATRON Debut." This bundle currently includes the games:

  • Voxatron - A very unique game which uses Voxels (which are basically 3D pixels) to create a stylized look with top down camera focus and platforming elements. This game is currently in early stages of development, but they will give you free updates all the up to it's final version and beyond!

  • Blocks That Matter - 2D sidescroller that is part puzzle, part block building similar to Minecraft.

  • The Binding of Isaac - Classic Zelda type sidescrolling gameplay from the guys that gave you Super Meat Boy.

Check after the break for more info and videos!

Zenspath Podcast Ep 14 - Technical Difficulties

Here we are with the new episode of the Zenspath Podcast a few weeks late after BOTH of the computers we use for the show died on us.  The laptop sadly is completely gone, but thankfully we did get the main PC up and running thus here is the show once more!

Now first off, you will hear about the new Bloody Roar game we talk about in the show...and yes we have already found out that like many other sites, we were the victim of a joke as the game is not really in development.

During the show we talk about how we feel about Gears of War 3 (SPOILER FREE!(mostly)), the new updates and reveals for Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Minecraft Pocket Edition delays and Josh's first time seeing Minecraft...where I promply fall directly into lava and die.

Also remember to sign up and comment on the show to be elegible to win a free copy of "Child of Eden" for the Xbox360 which can be played with either a controller or the Kinect and the contest is limited to the United States please (sorry guys!).

Last 5 NES 3DS Virtual Console Titles Announced? (Update: They Are Available!)

Earlier this year, Nintendo announced that 20 classic games (10 ea., NES and GBA) would be coming to the 3DS virtual console for those that had purchased a Nintendo 3DS before the announced price drop had taken effect as well as had logged into the 3DS e-Shop thus earning what they called "Ambassador" status.

The first 10 games announced were Super Mario Bros. (NES), Donkey Kong Jr. (NES), Balloon Fight (NES), Ice Climber (NES), The Legend of Zelda (NES), Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 (GBA), Mario Kart: Super Circuit (GBA), Metroid Fusion (GBA), WarioWare, Inc: Mega Microgame$ (GBA) and Mario VS. Donkey Kong (GBA).

The NES titles were to be the first release of titles starting on Sep. 1st, and today Nintendo of Japan has revealed the other 5 titles for the NES series. (EDITOR NOTE: There has been no announcment that these WILL be the other 5 for the US...I just hope they are.)

They are Wrecking Crew (NES), Mario Open Golf (NES), Yoshi's Egg (NES), Metroid (NES), and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES).

Nothing else was said about if they will all be released on the same day, as well as nothing about the other 5 GBA titles. Nintendo had previously stated that all 20 titles would be availble to Ambassador status 3DS owners by December 31st, 2011.

I will update once I hear more, but thanks to Kotaku for posting this announcement. (HERE)

UPDATE: As of the morning of August 31st 2011, the NES Virtual Console titles mentioned above are all available to download via the eShop.  Follow these instructions to get them asap!

  1. In the Nintendo eShop, go to the far left and select "Settings / Other"
  2. Scroll down and select "Your Downloads"
  3. Scroll down to find each individual title.  Any you have not downloaded still have "Redownload" next to them.  Note: Depending on the amount of games you downloaded in the past, you may have to skip to the next page in the list to get them.
  4. Download the game then repeat for each title.  Don't forget to also grab the "Ambassador Certificate".
  5. Enjoy some old school NES GOODNESS!
